"Do judge a roof by it's cover"

In January, we talked about Duro-Last® PVC roofing, and why it is a stellar product to work with. In this article, we’d like to take a look at another great roofing material: EPDM.
Ethyl Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM) is an extremely durable roofing material that is commonly employed on low-slope roofing structures. EPDM is a synthetic rubber derived from oils and natural gas, and is typically utilized in single-ply roofing, owing to its availability and relative ease of application.
EPDM is one of the easier roofing materials to apply, as it maintains plyability in a large range of temperatures, and can be fully adhered, ballasted, or mechanically attached to the roof deck. Repairs are easily accomplished through a two-step process of cleaning the affected area, and applying a waterproof patch.
EPDM roofs are particularly extremely resistant to surface damage, including damage from high heat and weathering. It is surprisingly flexible in cold climates, making it ideal for such buildings that have flat and low-slope roofs requiring to be waterproof and resistant to the constant harsh weather in the Midwest. (Options are also available to add EPDM as a waterproofing layer to any type of underlying surface on the top of your property.)
This roofing is often preferred due to its relative durability. Although EPDM warranties are typically available for 30 years, a well-maintained roof can have a lifespan of up to 50 years.
The roofing is comparably cleaner and it does not emit such odors and fumes that are ordinarily associated with the conventional built-up roofs.
Durability, installation ease and design versatility are among the numerous reasons why EPDM is a popular material for both new installations and reroofs of low slope roofing surfaces. The versatile membrane will provide you with a wide range of installation options, such as ballasted, fully adhered and mechanically attached, delivering exceptional wind uplift resistance.
It is however essential that you consult a qualified professional to perform your EPDM roof repair or installation in St Louis. If you are looking for reliable, economically beneficial and highly durable roofing for your commercial or industrial building, contact Jewett Roofing for more information.
