"Do judge a roof by it's cover"

DIY Inspection Guide

August 21, 2015

roof inspection

In our 35 years serving the St. Louis and Illinois region, Jewett Roofing technicians have repaired thousands and thousands of roof issues.  Here are three lessons we have found that can prevent roof problems from ever forming.

Lesson 1: Know What Type of Roof You Have.

There are many types of flat roofing  used across the St. Louis metro area. Knowing what type is covering your building is invaluable for performing proper inspections, maintenance, and repairs.

Lesson 2: Perform Basic Preventative Maintenance.

Preventative maintenance is an important part of ensuring you get the maximum lifetime out of your existing roof.  The NRCA or National Roofing Contractors Association (of which Jewett Roofing is a member) recommends that proactive maintenance be performed twice yearly. Studies have shown that by following recommended PM guidelines, you can extend the life of your roof by 5-7 years.
See our blog post and case study about preventative maintenance.

Lesson 3: When Needed, Call a Professional Roofing Company.

Time and time again we have been called to a leaking building only to find that that repairs had already been attempted by a person who did not have the knowledge or expertise to properly solve the problem. At Jewett Roofing, we have staff trained and dedicated only to finding and fixing leaky roofs. Our technicians are also trained to spot maintenance issues that have not caused a problem yet, but almost certainly will in the future.
